Mystery Disease in Democratic Republic of Congo - Start of the Next Pandemic?
Mysterious Disease in DRC

Results should be available next week

Deep in the remote region of Panzi, in The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), a mysterious and highly fatal disease has gripped the world in fear of another pandemic. According to vaccine pusher Dr. Peter Hotez, “We have some big picture stuff coming down the pike starting on January 21st (day after Trump inauguration),” Hotez said to MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace before rattling off a number of viruses (How does he know this?). What we know so far:

  • Symptoms are similar to flu and include respiratory distress, anemia, fever, aches, and headache.
  • The disease was initially recognized October 24, 2024, in the remote Panzi region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) located about 425 miles from Kinshasa. (2)
  • The World Health Organization issued a statement that “Initial test results from samples patients in an unexplained illness outbreak in Panzi health zone in Kwango Province, a remote region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), found malaria in several samples (10 out of 12 tested positive for malaria—which is endemic in the region) though it’s possible that more than one disease is involved,” the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said at a briefing in Geneva.
  • According to local health authorities, between October 24 and December 11, there were 514 cases of undiagnosed disease reported in eight of the 30 health areas in Panzi health zone.
  • The disease (or diseases) mortality rate is predominantly focused on malnourished children under the age of 5.
  • Case fatality rate is 7.6%, which is extremely high.
  • Among the deaths, 71% are below the age of 15, with 54.8% of the total in children under the age of five years.
  • The extremely remote region has hampered efforts to obtain quality samples for diagnosis in a timely manner. Recently, a team from the DRC Ministry of Public Health was able to obtain quality samples. Now they have the samples, the results should be forthcoming.
  • But the delay in confirming a pathogen has made targeted interventions impossible and has complicated efforts to implement targeted interventions. “It’s difficult to have a targeted response when you don’t know exactly what the pathogen is,” Mbala notes. Instead, the response has focused on isolation and support for patients who became ill. (1,2,3,4)

We will continue to closely monitor the situation and will update as more information becomes available.
